the gate lodge

The Gate Lodge involves the restoration and extension of a existing building in South Co.Derry

The building sits on the edge of a small village facing the main street. To the rear the land falls away around the villages old mill to a tree lined river.

The restoration of the Lodge is being undertaken to faithfully restore the building to its original state while improving its thermal performance to contemporary levels using breathable and natural materials to retain the stone and lime mortar walls breathable nature.

To the rear a low slung extension steps down with the land and sits beneath the over sailing eaves of the original lodge. The extension is to be constructed in a timber frame with natural insulation materials to maintain the buildings breathable nature throughout. The extension has large glazed areas to the rear to open the building up to the view of the river below.
